CV Sheriff's Captain Report: Crime Trends 2012

Sheriff's Captain Dave Silversparre of the Crescenta Valley Station submitted a report to Patch about recent crime trends in 2012: 

The is dedicated to the communities of La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Montrose. This article will discuss recent trends of crime for 2012 as a means to keep you informed.

La Cañada Flintridge

While the quantity of residential burglaries have decreased from late last year, a series of garage burglaries started where bicycles were targeted. Specifically, suspect(s) apparently drove the streets, located open garage doors and stole or attempted to steal bicycles. A suspect in an early March garage burglary on Houseman Avenue was scared off by the resident, and witnesses observed the male, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, enter a small white sedan with red straps on the open trunk. He was followed onto the freeway. Please close your garage doors and monitor your neighborhoods for incidents that require a law enforcement response.

La Crescenta/Montrose

While only a few residential burglaries have occurred this year, a couple street robberies occurred in . Juvenile victims were walking on the northern La Crescenta Avenue and the southern Rosemont Avenue areas when a young, teenage male white took their phones. Fortunately, no weapons were used, nor were their injuries. No crimes of this type occurred in February or at the time of [publication] in March. Please remember to be aware of your surroundings and walk with a friend, as it is safer in numbers.

Money Thefts

We have also had reports of people calling residents . Don’t fall for it! They communicate with you with information you inadvertently provide during the conversation; they are very good at pushing the emotional buttons; they also don’t want you to notify anyone else in your family, as they claim they want to tell them personally when they get home. Of course, they need money... of course, it is fabricated and the relative has been home all along. Please don’t send money to people you don’t know.
