4 Ways to Support Local Kids This Season

There are plenty of ways to help youth this holiday season, including a toy donation program, a prom plus holiday boutique, Christmas trees and student scholarships.

1. Donate a toy to local kids in the Spark of Love Toy Drive: the and local schools and , are collecting toys.  

All donated items will be distributed by a Glendale fire station to the Spark of Love Toy Drive. Gifts, toys and sports equipment are needed for all ages. However, this year there is an urgent need for items for teens and toddlers ages infant to two years old. 

Bring your donation of new, unused, unwrapped toys and sports equipment to the toy bins at local fire stations, the community center or participating schools.

2. Crescenta Valley High School's Prom Plus club will host its first on from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - rain or shine - Saturday, Dec. 10 at St. Luke's of the Mountain Church, near the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Rosemont Avenue. 

Taste breads and sweets for sale, enter drawings, find more than five food trucks and hear musical entertainment from and students.

Prom plus was created to host a safe, fun after prom event for Crescenta Valley High School students, following the death of Berlyn Cosman in 1993. Proceeds benefit the afer prom event.

3. Purchase a Christmas tree to support local youth: Local Youth & Government delegations sell tall, and small, sapplings at the YMCA of the Foothills in La Canada Flintridge. Proceeds from Christmas tree sales benefit teen programs and scholarships at the YMCA. 

Smith's Christmas tree lot, next to Office Depot, donates $5 to for every tree over $40 if you bring a flyer, available from Dunsmore. 

4. Support scholarships in a silent bidCrescenta Valley Town Council encourages locals to place a bid for an auctioned Extreme Boot Camp Workout package, which is valued at $500. Funds raised will help support local youth scholarships. Bidding starts at $200 and ends at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Complete the silent bid form here
