3 Dead, Including Child, After Minivan Goes Over Side of 134 Freeway in Eagle Rock

The crash is reported at 6:55 p.m. on the eastbound lane at Figueroa Street.

Update: CBS2/KCAL9 is reporting that alcohol might have been a factor in the crash, but that the minivan also blew a tire before skidding off the freeway and landing onto Figueroa Street below. A 6-year-old girl who survived the crash was evidently not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Previously: A vehicle went over the side of the Ventura (134) Freeway Sunday evening in Eagle Rock, killing three people, including a child, and hospitalizing three others, a city fire official said.

The crash was reported at 6:55 p.m. on the eastbound 134 at Figueroa Street, according to Brian Humphrey, a spokesperson of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Three people—a man, a woman and a girl—were pronounced dead at the scene, Humphrey said.

A 55-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman and a six-year-old girl were taken to hospitals in serious to critical conditions, Humphrey said.

The group was apparently all in the same vehicle, possibly a minivan, Humphrey said.

The cause of the crash was unknown.

I grew up in Eagle Rock and that stretch of the 134 has always been dangerous, imo. It's frightening to drive that part of the freeway at night, especially in the slow lane which puts you right next to a huge cliff with a tiny guardrail between you and a 100 ft. fall. The guardrails on that freeway need to be raised! And the design of the wall between the east and west bound freeway is odd as well. It's almost like a ramp that an out of control car would be launched off of. God bless the family and friends of the injured and deceased. Let's hope their deaths are not wasted and the safety of that highway is examined!

It looks that that is exactly how the SUV ended up falling between the bridges. I drove by two days ago and you can see the police marking paint showing where the vehicle rode up and along the wall you are talking about.

This was a tragic accident, but as we know, bad things happen to good people all the time. I'm just wondering where EagleRockMom is to blame it on the marijuana dispensaries.

Not sure of your source, your facts are often doubtful... but in any case, anecdote doesn't = data. Decisions should be based on data, not random anecdotes.
