Holiday Hangover

Let's face it - the days following the holiday fun of family, presents, food, parties and good cheer can sometimes be a drag. Repacking the ornaments, taking down the lights, trying to decide whether it's ok to toss the fruit cake, returning gifts, doing whatever your conscious allows you to do with the cards you've received....it can become daunting and at times, depressing.

On top of the physical aspects of de-holidaying your life, you have to face bills, cold weather and sometimes saying good by to visiting out-of-town family and friends. I'm getting sort of bummed out just thinking about it... : - (

I've found the best thing to do is soldier through the clean up process, pay the first installment of bills, and then take a deep breath and just sit down! I make a cup of tea, pull out the beautiful new gratitude journal I get as a gift from my husband every year, and jot down the gifts I received, both spiritually and physically. This way I can relive and relish the fun times with my family and friends that I just had.

Inevitably, this leads to thinking of New Year resolutions. I'm not so much of a resolution person as a goal setter.  For me it's easier to set a goal of eating 12 lbs of kale per week, than resolving to fit comfortably into my jeans before February 1st.

Goals entered, it's time to for the calendar. Work obligations, then social obligations, then date/couple activities, then ME time! This year so far I'm planning to take a painting class, start up spin classes again, and give myself a frivolous shopping allowance! As a gift shop owner, I understand, appreciate, and get to witness the joy brought on when treating yourself to something special. It's important to reinforce to yourself that YOU ARE WORTH IT!

Whether you're a resolver or a goal setter, I wish everyone a productive and satisfying 2014 filled with love, light and fun!
