Patch Blog: Lights on at Montrose Christmas Parade!

Despite the damage from the winds, holiday spirit was plentiful this past Saturday during the Montrose Christmas Parade.

Please enjoy this guest blog by my daughter Laura:

Despite the damage from the winds, holiday spirit was plentiful this past Saturday during the Montrose Christmas Parade. As a local kid I regularly participated in this annual parade whether it was for Indian Princesses, Girl Scouts, or my middle school marching band. It has been many years since my last march down Honolulu Avenue and I was nostalgic when my father invited me to ride with him on the Crescenta Valley Town Council’s “float.”  Plus, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see Santa waving at me from a helicopter.  It is a wonderful holiday tradition.

Our “float” was a beautiful red 1936 Chevy stake-bed truck. We rode down the parade route waving and wishing the crowd “Merry Christmas!”  I would post a photo for you, but my mother was enjoying her hot-tottie so much that she was not able to get her camera working in time as we passed by.

I regret not wearing gloves, but otherwise it was a good time. I especially enjoyed the group in front of us, Santas on 70’s! It is a dozen or so men on little motorcycles (Honda Trail 70’s) that were attempting to do figure eights and donuts. So much fun.

I was also very impressed with the turnout. Crowds of people lined the route drinking hot chocolate and enjoying the holiday lights and music. I was afraid the recovery from our latest . Perhaps it was because Montrose was ablaze in Christmas lights which was alluring to those who have been without power.

The best part of the night was going out to dinner with my family to Cucina Rustica. It was my first time there and the food and service were fabulous! Exactly what we needed after the cold but festive night.

Until next year, Merry Christmas everyone!
