Patch Retracts Article ‘FBI, IRS Raid Area Convalescent Hospitals’

Corrections to a previously posted article on Montrose Patch.

Patch has retracted an article on the Montrose Patch, dated June 7, concerning Verdugo Valley Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre in Montrose.

The article incorrectly stated that Verdugo Valley Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre was found guilty of 11 charges of felony abuse and neglect in 2011. In fact, the Centre was indicted on a single charge of felony neglect, and the matter was settled with that charge being dismissed without a conviction or other finding or admission of guilt, according to Daniel A. Saunders of Bingham McCutchen LLP, who represents Brius Management, which manages Verdugo Valley.

Moreover, the article also incorrectly stated that Brius Management owns both South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital and College Vista Convalescent Hospital in Eagle Rock. The two facilities were raided separately by the FBI, IRS and two California state agencies on June 7, and . In fact, Brius is a minority owner of the South Pasadena facility and does not own the Eagle Rock facility, according to Saunders.

Patch regrets the errors.
