Patch Blog: Bike Racks Aren't Coming to Montrose!

Montrose may not be getting bike racks after all, your voice is needed.

Back in September I wrote a blog about .

Hoping that the racks would make it to Montrose, I waited in good faith.

Its seems our hope could be dashed. A friend and fellow cycling advocate has it on good authority that the Montrose Shopping Park Association is preventing the installation of the stylish bike racks along Honolulu and within the shopping park.

I'm not going to assume or explain the reasons, but its our job to cry loud enough to get this changed. The citizens and Glendale city council approved these bike racks for public use in public spaces. A commerce organization shouldn't prevent that from happening since it actually is in their best interest.

Wouldn't it be nice to offer those community members who patron the park the opportunity to feel secure when riding their bikes into the park? Perhaps then they might stay longer, browse more businesses and spend more money. All while taking up one less spot in a parking lot.

I wonder if the board of the MSPA has considered that?

Perhaps they have been too busy trying to get their house in order (, ) to bother themselves with something the community actually wants and is asking for.

If you feel slighted by this exclusion, please reach out to the MSPA board members directly to relay your displeasure. Contact info can be found here, MSPA contact page. Many are local business owners and can be found at their shops.

Or, make your voice heard, it appears that the board regularly meets at Ocean View Bistro at 8 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 4!
