Choosing the Right Preschool for Your Child Just Got Easier: Local MOMS Club to Host Preschool Expo

My daughter wasn’t more than a year old when friends with children the same age started discussing their search for the right preschool. And the questions weren’t just when to start looking, but what to look for: Montessori, Waldorf, and play-based are just some of the types out there. Some preschools focus more on creative play and individually focused learning while others favor group projects; one program may promote play as the primary learning activity while others may include more traditional academic learning.

Sound overwhelming? It can be.

Fortunately, there are resources available to help parents navigate the process. For Foothill area parents, the most helpful may be the MOMS Club of the Foothills annual Preschool Expo. The free community event, currently in its sixth year, will be held from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, Nov. 16th at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Avenue. The expo is an opportunity to meet with representatives from preschools in Glendale, La Crescenta, La Canada, Lake View Terrace, Pasadena, Sunland, and Tujunga. Parents can ask questions about school philosophies, programs, and admissions, schedule tours, and get a general feel of what’s available in the community. It’s basically one-stop shopping - a valuable resource for any busy parent.

The expo is also a chance to learn more about resources available for children in our area. Local businesses, including Little Gym, Pump and Splash, and KidsArt, will be in attendance, and a bake sale and silent auction will be held with proceeds benefiting the MOMS Club International Mother-to-Mother Fund and the Elizabeth House Adopt-A-Family.

Moms can also learn more about the MOMS Club, an international non-profit club offering a way to meet other moms and their children and enjoy a variety of fun activities. The Foothill Chapter welcomes moms in La Canada, La Crescenta, Montrose, North Glendale, Sparr Heights, Kagel Canyon, Lake View Terrace and Sunland-Tujunga.
