CV Town Council Prepares for Forum About Big Rig Parking

La Canada Flintridge, Glendale, Burbank and Sunland-Tujunga all have parking restrictions for big rigs, but unincorporated La Crescenta-Montrose does not.

The Crescenta Valley Town Council went over details Thursday about the upcoming Aug. 15 meeting regarding possibly adopting parking restrictions for big rigs parking on or under overpasses along the 210 Freeway.

According to Council Member Robbyn Battles, the council is taking precaution as they contemplate what they should do about this issue.

Battles said that she has met with the county supervisor to discuss the council's next move and how this will affect La Cresecenta-area business owners who need deliveries from these trucks.

"What were trying to be careful about, is that we don’t hurt people that have businesses in La Crescenta," said Battles. "We can’t just say any big rigs, because big rigs come in different sizes."

Battles also went on to say that Altadena incorporated parking restrictions for big rigs, but  wasn't thorough enough, and had to go through the process again in order to make sure more overpass locations were included.

The Aug. 15 forum will be an open forum for the public in order for the council to weigh on other alternatives.

La Canada Flintridge, Glendale, Burbank and Sunland-Tujunga all have parking restrictions for big rigs, which is possibly why big rigs choose to park in La Crescenta along the 210.

One La Canada Flintridge Patch reader has noticed the trucks and others parking on local overpasses, saying in a post on the site:

We all pay taxes to live in a nice area and it starting to look like San Fernando Road in Glendale.

According to Captain Bill Song of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Crescenta Valley Station, the only other place the big rigs can park in the greater area, outside of La Crescenta, are the hills next to the 118 in Sylmar.

The open forum will take place Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at the community room in the La Crescenta Library. The public is welcomed for this special open forum.
