Postal Service to Keep Saturday Delivery for Now

The plan would have saved the U.S. Postal Service an estimated $2 billion.

The U.S. Postal Service has announced it will continue Saturday deliveries due to a recently passed Congressional measure that prevents the agency from implementing the cost-cutting measure.

In February, the Postal Service proposed stopping mail delivery on Saturdays, with the exceptions of packages. The new delivery schedule, which would have saved the Postal Service an estimated $2 billion, was slated to begin Aug. 5.

At the U.S. Post Office on Montrose Avenue, customers had mixed reactions to the news, with many opining that the Postal Service should cut costs or risk running out of funds altogether.
