The cat apparently jumped from backyard to backyard.

A mountain lion visiting a La Crescenta neighborhood gave residents quite a thrill Thursday.

The mountain lion was initially spotted Thursday morning in the foothills between New York Avenue and Foothill Boulevard before disappearing and reappearing hours later.

"I was gone and when I came home I saw all the news vans and thought, 'Oh my God, what happened?'" La Crescenta resident Barbara Holler said.

It turns out the mountain lion had decided to hang out in Holler's backyard before exploring the backyard belonging to her daughter-in-law, Jamie.

"It's a good thing I wasn't home because I probably would have come face-to-face with [the mountain lion]," Barbara Holler said, explaining that she likes to garden and spends as much time as possible in her backyard.

Jamie Holler was at work, but her husband managed to capture the mountain lion in action.

"That's our cat," Jamie Holler joked as she showed off a cell phone picture of the mountain lion her husband had texted her.

When asked if she had any fear of the wildlife known to roam the foothills, the younger Holler laughed and shook her head "no."

"I love animals," she said.

Animal Control eventually caught up with the wayward cat and tranquilized it so it could be taken up to the mountains and relocated, officials said.
