Five Things You Need to Know Today: July 7

Download some free tunes from the library, catch Harry Potter for free and get tips on keeping your car and home safe.

1. Los Angeles County Libraries are offering three free music downloads a day to cardholders. The Freegal program allows users to search for and download songs from all genres. Both the La Crescenta, 2809 Foothill Blvd., and Montrose-Glendale branches are offering the service. Just search the libaray catalog online or stop in or call to talk to a librarian. Thephone number is 818-248-5313. The , 818-548-2048, is located at 2465 Honolulu Ave.

2. Unfortunately, home burglaries are not rare in La Crescenta and Montrose, and during the summer when families are away on vacation, home burglaries tend to increase. In addition to locking doors and windows, holding mail and newspapers, and using an alarm company, the Glendale Police Department offers 15 pages of other tips and suggestions for keeping your home safe both while you're in town and out.

3. Your car needs some extra love during the warm weather to keep it running smoothly. The Automobile Club of Southern California offers some expert advice, like simple engine and brake checks, for how to prepare your car before your family's summer road trip.

4. Yoga and smoothies are combined today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the . Stretch it out and then refresh with a blended treat. Teens and tweens are welcome. Call 818-248-5313 for more information.

5. The last Harry Potter movie is set to hit theaters July 15. Head over to the La Cañada Library, 4545 N Oakwood Ave., for the Wizard Movie Marathon at 3 p.m. Kids of all ages, and even some adults, will enjoy the sixth Harry Potter movie and be prepared to follow up next week with movie number seven.
