Five Things You Need to Know Today: July 6

While the weather stays hot, make sure your pet keeps cool.

1. Valentine’s Traveling Nature Class visits the today from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Parents and kids can learn about and touch turtles, insects, snakes, and other animals. Call the library for more information 818-248-5313.

2. Live music, sno-cones, and a magician are all part of the good times offered by the Montrose-Verdugo Chamber of Commerce July Mixer at , 2626 Honolulu Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Honoring chamber members, the event also includes live music, BBQ pickings, and prizes. Call 818-542-6850 for more information.

3. The  offers free computer workshops and classes for beginners to intermediate users. Classes are available in English, Spanish, and Armenian. Stop by the library's website for schedule and information, or call 818-548-2048.

4. Celebrating their 15th anniversary, , 3730 N. Verdugo Road is offering a fabulous 15-cent corkage fee for the entire month of July. Indulge in an Italian dinner, bring your own wine, and use the savings for an extra appetizer or dessert. 5. While we can easily head to the pool or an air conditioned spot for some relief from the heat, our best animal friends need a little help. The Glendale Humane Society offers some tips and advice on how to keep our pets cool and healthy during hot times. California law prohibits animals from being left in closed cars when it's hot and they could suffer. Be sure to keep your pets in mind and provide them with plenty of water and shade both at home and when you're on the move.
