Five Things for a Fantastic Friday: July 29

Get ready for a massive yard sale or make some crafts with your kids this weekend!

1. The Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse welcomes you to a cool, laid-back evening of music featuring Melvin Doo. The free event starts at 7 p.m. 964 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada-Flintridge. 818-790- 0717.

2. Starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, 15 families will be offering you the best of what they want to sell in an epic yard sale spanning 3 blocks - a lemonade stand is promised. Phat Solar will also be manning an information booth. Books, bikes, homegoods, and clothes are just some of the offerings. The sale will take place along Urquidez Avenue just north of the Roselawn light and include Shirleyjean and Malafia Drives. Please don't be an early bird!

3. Learn what to do now to be sure your fall roses and chrysanthemums bloom to their brightest. Descanso Gardens hosts Saturday morning Garden Chats with horticulturist Mike Brown. The chats are free. Bring plenty of questions! Please meet at the garden's Nature's Table. 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada-Flintridge, 818-949-4200.

4. invites you in for a crochet and knit drop-in session from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Whether you're stuck with knots or want some help figuring out a pattern, stop by for expert advice, encouragement, and even insipiration. 5. Join your kids for a fun afternoon of making doodles and letters into art! t's most popular class teaches you to create a fun project using the shop's scrapbook and lettering techniques. Perfect for ages seven and above, class runs 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Everything needed for your project will be provided. The class costs $30 per person. 2269 Honolulu Ave., 818-957-2848.
