Excessive Heat Watch: How to Keep Cool, Stay Safe

Montrose Patch has the facts and tips to keep you from sweating.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for today through Saturday night, dubbing these the hottest days of the year. 

Tonight: Low reaching 73 degrees.

Friday: High near 99 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m. and after 11 p.m, and low reaching 74 degrees.

Saturday: High reaching 98, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m., and low reaching 74 degrees.

Sunday: A high near 101 degrees and low reaching 74 degrees.

With potentially dangerous high temperatures plaguing Los Angeles County mountains and valleys, Montrose and La Crescenta could see temperatures hit triple digits and feel an increased overnight humidity.

The agency cautioned that heat-related illness and fatigue could happen during the next few days, especially for the homeless, elderly, people who work outdoors and pets.

Here are some tips on how to cope with the heat:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Stay in an airconditioned room.
  • If you don't have airconditioning visit a local cooling center. The closest cooling center for Montrose and La Crescenta residents is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Glendale Parks and Recreation Service Center, 201 E. Colorado Blvd., Glendale. 
  • Stay out of the sun.
  • Check up on neighbors and relatives.
