For years, CARING leaders have organized internal staff development programs, focusing on the importance of teamwork. In recent years, they have turned team-building programs to community outreach projects – combining the elements of giving back with team camaraderie.

On March 15, CARING took part in a groundbreaking ceremony at the building site on East Chestnut Street that will allow its team members to work on a year-long homebuilding project in Glendale.

The project, Chestnut Homes, is organized by San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity and is the first year-long program that all 95 CARING staff members will be part of. In years past, CARING’s community service projects spanned up to three months working in small teams with a variety of organizations.

“CARING Housing Ministries has a rich history in creating, nurturing and preserving quality affordable housing communities that enrich the lives of those who live in them, but we also take great pride in actively serving the community through volunteerism,” said Nancy L. Spring, president of CARING Housing Ministries in a press release. “To succeed and make a difference, you must be compassionate. We go to great lengths in training and developing our staff in order to keep us at the forefront of affordable housing providers, but compassion through volunteerism is the greatest gift you can possibly give.”

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Spring, along with representatives from SGV Habitat for Humanity and other sponsors spoke in front of a crowd that included volunteers and the would-be owners of the homes.

The project is scheduled to be complete early next year. Those interested in participating in the build (through volunteering or making donations) can log on to the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity website for more information.
