Sheriff's officials said the thieves may have cut through a fence from Flintridge Preparatory School to access the site, with copper wiring the likely target of the heist.

"The work the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association does every year to make their dream of building a float come true is remarkable," Suzanne Hart of Wells Fargo said. "Their efforts unify the entire city and give us all something to be proud of as we watch the parade on New Year's Day. When our team learned of the equipment robbery we were heartbroken and knew we had to help."
