"Our wives won't go near us, because we smell like a sausage," said Wally Schreiner, President of Schreiner's Fine Sausages. Wally is a third-generation sausage maker following in the footsteps of his grandparents, who set up shop in Los Angeles in 1952. Watch Patch's mouth-watering tour of Schreiner's Sausages and interview with its charming President to the right.
The German deli and grocery on the southern border of Montrose features ground meat, deli meat, bacon, jerky, an array of imported German delights and of course, a variety of different sausages. Customers can also order a sandwich and eat it in-house. Patch's pick? The pastrami on rye.
Hidden in the back of Schreiner's is an all-out sausage factory. Fresh meat is delivered and then taken inside where it's grinded, mixed and seasoned with spice blends that are made on site. Afterwards it's stuffed, smoked, cooked and packaged for consumption.
Schreiner's products are available in the store, but the family business expands well beyond Glendale due to their successful wholesale clientele. Schreiner's Sausages can be found at Pink's Universal Citywalk, Knott's Berry Farm, and Las Vegas locations, in La Canada, and in other restaurants around the nation.
