Public Hearing Planned for Starbucks in Montrose

Glendale planning officials will determine if Starbucks will receive a conditional use permit, which allows for a fast food restaurant in that location, and a parking reduction permit to waive a requirement to provide 15 parking spaces.

Locals who crave a Starbucks lattes or oppose the coffee shop in Montrose have a chance to speak publicly in January.

Residents and business owners within 500 feet of the proposed Starbucks at 2284 Honolulu Ave. received notice about the hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 9:30 a.m. at 633 E. Broadway, Room 105.

Jon Adams of Architects Orange is applying for two permits on behalf of Starbucks Coffee Co. The first permit is a conditional use permit for the fast food restaurant in the commercial and residential zone. The second permit is a parking reduction permit, which is a request to be granted relief from not having 15 parking spaces--a requirement for retail-service use for fast food restaurants.

The proposed business is considered a fast foot restaurant because it provides more than nine seats inside the proposed business, case planner Brad Collin told Patch.

"The purpose of the hearing is to hear comments from the public with respect to zoning and environmental concerns," according to the notice.
