Giant Neighborhood Yard Sale Draws Crowds (Photos)

Neighbors on Urquidez Avenue and Malafia Drive in Montrose held a big yard sale on Saturday.

Last weekend, Diana Yao and other neighbors in the vicinity of Urquidez Avenue and Malafia Drive came together to have a massive garage sale. Fifteen families participated in the Saturday morning adventure.

Yao, who headed the sale, tried to ward off sunrise crowds with a "no early birds" warning on her announcements, but eager buyers showed up as early as 6 a.m.

In any event, the sale was a success, with air conditioning units and mountain bikes flying off the proverbial shelves. All the neighbors were happy to clear out their garages and attics.

Lothar Watson was selling tools and machinery that he no longer needed for his handyman business. He also sold golf clubs, a DVD player and an almost a full work bench, complete with saws.

Common among most sellers were lot of toys and children's books, either sold of by the proud (and wistful) owners themselves, or by grandparents whose grandchildren had outgrown the "kiddie stuff."

That made it a great occasion for youngster Trevor Sandberg, who was happily buying up lots of Matchbox cars and toys with his dad, Eric Sandberg. He was particularly proud of his new collection of plastic snakes--check them out in our photo gallery!
