Oktoberfest Brings Germany to the Foothills (Video)

The Montrose tradition celebrates the best in German cuisine and offers fun for all locals.

The happens this Saturday at Montrose’s Oktoberfest.

grills bratwurst and piles on sauerkraut while Montrose Bakery provides strudel, churros and brownies. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory will bring sweet snacks, along with roasted almonds from the Peanut Dudes.

This local tradition has three stages, including the . Dancers and musicians from Montrose, La Crescenta, Glendale, Tujunga, Sunland and La Canada Flintridge will perform from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The free event has a Bavarian photo booth, bingo, carnival games, German dancing and face painting. Several contests will be held, including an Oktoberfest coloring contest, best-dressed dog, Master and Little Miss Oktoberfest and Stein Holding and Sausage Eating Contests in the Beer Garden.

Glendale police will be at the festival to monitor, conduct traffic and perform undercover operations, Sgt. Tom Lorenz told the Glendale News-Press.

"Our goal is to provide very high visibility to deter people from doing the wrong thing," Lorenz told the News-Press.

Several fights broke out along with alcohol-related arrests last year, Lorenz said. One arrest included underage drinking. 

Melinda Clarke, Executive Director of Montrose Chamber of Commerce, adds that Oktoberfest highlights local merchants, talent and offers more than just alcohol to celebrate.

“There’s something for everybody, not just drinking beer,” Clarke told Patch.
