Montrose Starbucks Will Open Friday

Crescenta Valley High School graduate Joe Agnone will manage the new Starbucks location at 2282 Honolulu Avenue, near Ocean View Boulevard.

The grand opening of Montrose's --Starbucks happens Friday.

The Seattle-based coffee chain will open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday for the first time, said Crescenta Valley High School graduate and manager Joe Agnone.

The location at 2282 Honolulu Avenue, near Ocean View Boulevard, has been under construction the past several months.

The original bank floors are still intact and locals are invited to check out the coffee house on opening day, Agnone told Patch.

Check back with Patch for photos from opening day.

Nothing like blending in with the other shops! Not!

I logged into my email account to see the Montrose Patch: BREAKING NEWS ALERT at the top of my inbox. Oh my God, what is it? A brush fire? earthquake? An escaped criminal, a shooting? Oh. A Starbucks is opening. Gee. Thanks for the bulletin. Excuse me, Patch- I'd appreciate it if you would lay off crying wolf unless there actually is one. Really. Thanks.

I totally agree with Juliana. Really! While I am sure we all appreciate the service please use better judgment when sending out these alerts or at least put in a tag line that alerts us to its content. The opening of any store in our area just does not cut it (unless, of course, Starbucks is offering free coffee on opening day! NOT!) Thank you.

Get ready for more traffic jams and accidents in that intersection . From experience I know the Starbucks customers can't wait for that coffee fix, and there will be double parking and rumbles over what parking spots there are for that kind of business. They should not have been allowed to open on that corner, they got special treatment for not having to have specfic parking spaces. The Starbucks people will try to park across the street in the private lot of Coffee Bean and Tea who have to pay extra rent to have that parking. I bet Starbucks will put them out of business. That is how Montrose Shopping Park treats there longtime merchants. Remember how long that store was empty before they went in. Another vacancy would not be good. I think it was a bad choice for there

It doesn't get any better than Joe Agnone! I wish you all the luck Joe. If anyone can make this work, you can.

Jeez, what a bunch of negative nellies you all are! I am glad that Starbucks is opening. I think they have done a beautiful job with the building, which otherwise would have sat vacant. Is that better for Montrose in this economy? Starbucks went through the appropriate approvals, and other merchants in the shopping park supported Starbucks coming in because they want the additional people that it will bring.

I love Montrose too. I drove past the Starbucks today and it is a cute very modern design that might spurn the other store fronts to freshen up a bit. Its time... I do also understand the issues with parking. I dont think we will ever get back to the level of foot traffic we had back in the day so this might be an issue. I feel badly for the placement as CBATL is right accross the street, but if they Starbucks) were approved then let the games begin...it will all come down to service. Whoever smiles the biggest and does not mess up my coffee order gets my vote. And I dare CBATL to get a private security person like Chase (bank) did ... Bwahahahaha!!!

I am new to Patch. And I like the "Hometown" feel rather than the world at large issues everyday in typical press. I have also been living in Montrose for 10 years and loving it! It is truly one of the great gems of a modern world with it's roots going back over 100 years. And now of course, there's Starbucks. Will having this coffee mecca put Montrose on the map? WIll hordes of SB drinkers disown the one less than a half mile up the hill next to the theaters? Will they come Zombie like to a new portal to sip a Latte' while Kindling or FB on their Laptop? Probably. What I would really like would have been to have placed there would be a Jamba Juice. That would have made my day- especially to offset the sugar crazed addictions to the coffee and gallons O' yogurt served on the same corner, rather than just more caffeine. I fear Montrose will now become a caffeine fiends den of inequity, like slow vultures seeking those bleached bones of one more Mocha or muffin. Perhaps, and this is a wild possibility- And the greatest rumor of all- based on the trade secret that it only costs a mere 30 cents for SB to make it's most expensive coffee drink, including employee wages, that we will see finally the long awaited Coffee Wars. Where both chains- Starbucks and Coffee Bean begin undercutting their extravagant price for a cup o' Joe, to say only "A Buck a Brew." anyone?

A Last word on locals- Perhaps- Since Patch is for our local community, we should also consider supporting LOCAL restaurants rather than large chains for coffee like Starbucks and such. How about Rocky Cola Cafe, City Hall Coffee Shop, Tazza Coffee, Montrose Home Bakery, Black Cow (Great Mocha) and one of the hidden gems, Java Brew next to the framing store White's Gallery on Honolulu.

Yup. I agree a really bad deal for CBTL who is so well loved in the community. But folks, I gotta say there's two sides to every story. I personally had just a couple of discussions with CBTL about working with them to beat Starbuck's to the punch, and while cordial, they were not all over it and stopped showing interest after just a couple of calls. I don't see that their corporate offices did much of anything to jump in to Montrose and get creative about their participation in the course of events either. Correct me if I'm wrong for sure. But the usual denial line for competition next door (I'm not just talkin CBTL here) is "Oh, they don't offer the same thing," "We don't really see it as competition." Well, all I can say is that especially in this day, retail business is not a spectator sport. And you better be proactive about your competition. I just hope there's room for both of them and wish them both the best. And now, I'd like to use this opportunity to invite you all to my new storefront "Caffeine-aholics Anonymous" which will opening up just as soon as Faye's decides to move out. Something just tells me it the right place at the right time!

Right on, right on, to that, Montrose Man!

Yes, let me second the Java Brew recommendation! A lovely little coffee oasis with a charming patio and friendly service - I often wonder why it's not more frequented. Plus in the mornings you can get a nice, cooked to order egg muffin sandwich to accompany your coffee... much more appetizing than those tired old blueberry muffins in the Starbucks case.
