Montrose Small Businesses Replace 'Black Friday' With 'White Friday'

Montrose merchants are inviting the public to eat and shop, locally on Friday, before American Express' Small Business Saturday. Santa, snow and a Christmas tree lighting will kick off the holiday season on Honolulu Avenue.

As an alternative to the long lines and chaotic shopping malls, many stores along Honolulu Avenue will "white out" sales tax on items, offer special promotions and host open houses on Friday.

The 2200 Block of Honolulu Avenue will be closed for children to play with real snow and listen to the singing, strolling carolers. The second annual holiday tree lighting ceremony kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday.

Merchants and restauranteurs encourage the public to shop and eat local during the kick off to Montrose's Old Town Christmas and the day before American Express' Small Business Saturday.
