Lakers: AT&T Makes Deal With Time Warner Cable

AT&T U-verse customers will have a chance to watch the Los Angeles Lakers on television.

The new pay TV channel with exclusive rights to most L.A. Lakers games has picked up its first big affiliation agreement.

Southern Californians who subscribe to the AT&T U-verse TV service will be able to see Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes effective Tuesday, TWC and ATT officials said today.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet will be available for U-verse TV customers in the Los Angeles, San Diego, Bakersfield and Fresno markets to subscribers with the U100 package and above.

The twin channels carry the Lakers non-network games, as well as WNBA Sparks and L.A. Galaxy soccer games.

The distribution deal marks the first carriage for the TWC channels on systems other than Time Warner Cable's own systems. Other major distribution systems have balked at the $3.95 per month wholesale charge levied by TWC, and the demand that the extra channels be made available on all basic cable tiers.
