Halloween Costume Ideas for Kids

Have you planned your child's Halloween costume? Here are a list of local costume ideas, based Patch's top area news stories in 2012.

If you've ever walked down Honolulu Avenue during Halloween, then you probably know it can get super spooky and crazy creative.

This year is no different with the Montrose Spooktacular, hosted by the Montrose Shopping Park Association and Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce.

Families are invited to trick-or-treat down Honolulu Avenue in costume on Wed., Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.

At Patch, we've compiled a list of several great costume ideas for children inspired by recent headlines.

The Glendale Bear

That fuzzy guy visited the Glendale area not once, but three times. Known as 'Meatball," our mountain mascot could be a great costume for anyone, including babies or kids. Make your ensemble with fabric from Joann's Fabric Store at 2160 Foothill Blvd., La Canada Flintridge. Acessorize with meatballs, tuna, baklava or a stinky, plastic garbage bag.

Mars Curiosity Rover and the JPL team

Space lovers rejoiced when NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory landed the Mars Curiosity Rover. Now, you can dress up like the rover using cardboard and tin foil. Another option? How about famed Mohawk guy or any member of our local team making international headlines? We have the photos of the men and women responsible for landing a monster truck-sized rover on the red planet. You've got the imagination!

Starbucks Employee

You may have noticed by the mermaid cups around town. Starbucks opened in Montrose. Dress up like a local employee and slip on a green apron, crisp black or khaki pants and hat.

Olympian

California had 16 gold medalists at the London 2012 Olympics. Perhaps, you feel the Olympic afterglow? Your kiddo can wear gold just like one of these local winners in track, swimming, soccer, archery, basketball, badminton, soccer, gymnastics or water polo. Check out local sports supplies stores, including Premiere Soccer or Landry's Sporting Goods in Montrose. Sports Chalet in La Canada Flintridge also carries necessary costume gear.

Thank you so much. I definitely should not have been wearing it... it has been loose for a coupleRead More of years now. I'm hoping that it is on my property otherwise I am at the grace of good honest people... Thank you for your suggestions and I have filed a lost property report and I will definitely call the local pawn shops. Keeping it in perspective and at the end of the day it is just an object, but I'm definitely hoping that it finds its way back.

I can well empathsize with your loss. First thing, can you remember taking it off anywhere? DidRead More you wash your hands anywhere, soap makes fingers slippery. Did it fit well or was it a little loose? Running makes the arms swing. Strange as it may seem, it may still be in or on your own property. There are still honest people, call the desk of every business you went to. Also, call every pawn shop in your area and report. Good luck. If its any comfort, I found a diamond studded tie tack when I gazed at the soil in my garden and saw it. Keep us posted. b

I feel bad that teachers are having to pull money out of their own pockets, I wonder whateverRead More happened to the lottery money that was supposed to go to schools?
