Serving Soup for a Cause

The Empty Bowls Benefit, Hope for Hunger, brought locals to Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church on Saturday night.

Feeding the hungry drove locals to the Empty Bowls Benefit, Hope for Hunger, at the in Montrose on Saturday night.

For a $15 donation, participants received a handmade bowl provided by the and gallons of soup from local restaurants, including , , , , bread from and and in La Canada Flintridge.

The church event provided donations for three organizations who feed hungry people: the Ecumencial Council of Pasadena Area Congregations' Friends in Deed House; Tujunga United Methodist Church's Baily Human Care Center and Christians Concerned for Burma, an organization that offers food and medical help to tribes displaced by the Burmese government.

Potter Jeanne Lavieri, church members and Community Center friends spent the past five months throwing bowls at the Community Center of La Canada Flintridge for the event, according to CVUMC Rev. Paige Eaves in a news release. 

Local shops contributed gift certificates for a silent auction while musicians played throughout the night.
