Bites Nearby: Hello Pizza, Goodbye Cheap Pizza Pie

Try a new twist on traditional pizza at Hello Pizza.

Not so long ago, I completely embarrassed myself at a pizza place when I was picking up dinner. I broke down in tears thanking the teen who handed me my big, steaming cardboard box full of "nutrition" for my family. As a busy mom, I am always trying to balance my crazy schedule, my crazy kids and my crazy life, and it was so nice having someone else make dinner. But after that incident, I can't show my face at that restaurant again. So I went off in pursuit of a new pizza place.

I really enjoy higher-end pizza with fresh ingredients, but normally that has me driving across town or making it myself. I recently stumbled across Hello Pizza, located just a half-mile north of Old Town Montrose, and found myself pleasantly surprised by their menu, ingredients, selection and service. They serve up fresh pizza, baked spaghetti, a variety of appetizers, salads and desserts daily.

Hello Pizza offers traditional pizza varieties such as double cheese, pepperoni, Hawaiian, and combination pizzas all on regular or thin crust, classic or stone-ground whole wheat crust. But, since I am always on the look out for something new, I found my eyes wandering toward the premium pizzas on their menu: potato gold, double sweet and tofu garden.

I ordered up a large potato gold for the family and found it to be absolutely amazing. This pizza is served on a thick crust that is stuffed with sweet potato spears and topped with marinara sauce, ground beef, mushrooms, corn, sautéed onions, potatoes, cheese, bacon and sweet potato mousse. It's all drizzled with sour cream. One slice of this delectable dinner is a huge portion, so the large with 12 slices is plenty for a family dinner and some midnight snacking afterward.

I am impressed with how Hello Pizza caters to every dietary concern. They feature a wonderful gluten-free crust and vegetarian and vegan options. From the simple cheese to the bulgogi-marinated Korean barbeque style pizza, there is something on the menu that will satisfy everyone in your family. Their baked spaghetti with cheese is a real crowd pleaser and comes topped with your choice of sauce: tomato, meat or alfredo.

They offer eight different appetizers, including buffalo wings, deep fried calamari, and sausage on a stick wrapped in a seasoned crust. The salads make a wonderful side, and I personally love their oriental chicken salad. But, there is also classic house Italian, classic Caesar, and the HP (Hello Pizza) salad that comes with breaded chicken and a honey mustard dressing.

Hello Pizza is currently having their one-year anniversary celebration. Customers can spin their wheel of prizes to win free pizza, wings, drinks, desserts or other sides.

Daily specials include 20 percent off all take-out pizzas and buy one cheese pizza get the second for half off. You can also sign up on their Facebook page for daily deals. They offer free local delivery with a minimum $15 order.
