Welcome to California

The Misplaced Midwesterner makes her debut post, blogging about her journey to California. She's been a resident for just over a month and plans on chronicling her adventures around the state.

It's best to start at the beginning of this crazy adventure.

Just before Christmas 2011, I received some interesting news. My husband was offered a new job out in San Diego. The two of us were living in a cookie-cutter townhouse in Pittsburgh where we were unhappy with our jobs, our apartment and the city in general. We were apprehensive, at first, to making this move, but we knew in the long run it would be for the best. By the end of January, we figured out the logistics of the move, packed up our apartment, found an apartment, signed a lease and had the utilities set up. We were ready to make the move.

We drove a total of 2,441 miles and the trip spanned over four days. We drove through West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona until we finally reached The Golden State. We were able to experience some interesting cuisine, saw the sights of State Route 66 and even met some other travelers along the way.

We've been in California just over a month and we are so happy we made the move. The transition into west-coast living was easy. We've acclimated ourselves with the highway system and the driving patterns of the locals. It's as if we were destined to live out here. Some of my little nuances and quirks that I've picked up from growing up back east flare up from time to time, but old habits die hard. Yes, I wave at everyone and yes, I am the driver who is instinctively driving 65 mph.

My adventures and journey don't stop now that I've made the cross-country trip. I still have zoos to see, roads to run, restaurants to dine at and an ocean to swim in. I'm ready and this is going to be awesome.

Well welcome to California! Get out and see as much as you can. There's a lot to see and do.

You should check out the zoo. Its like $90 dollars for two annual passes.

Already did! My adventures at the San Diego Zoo will be posted in about a week or two!

The Safari Park is way better than the Zoo... Just make sure you go before it gets too hot.
