Why Did They Name It 'Montrose,' and Who Named It?
Is it named after a book by Sir Walter Scott, or was it a contest winner who named it?
Was it named by a contest winner after a town in Pennsylvania, or was it after a novel, Sir Walter Scott's The Legend of Montrose? Was it named because of the many roses in the area?
Robert Newcombe, the author of the recently published book "Images of America, Montrose," tries to sort through the fact, the fiction and the fantasy of why Montrose was called Montrose.
In a recent interview with the Glendale News-Press, Newcombe described the research that went into the book and why he was fascinated to learn the origin of Montrose's name. But there is much more to the book than just the name search, as it covers the complete early history of Montrose.
The book was released in January and can be purchased online or at Once Upon A Time bookstore in Montrose.
