I am so tired of seeing the Mother Turf stickers defacing public and private property. Kids are slapping them on street signs, trash cans, walls of public businesses and neighborhood homes. But now to see this photo of grafitti on the Montrose Patch is disappointing, indeed. This should not be honored in this way and I feel it should be removed from this "where is it" since it should not be there in the first place and was spray painted there illegally.

I completely agree with you Lisa! The La Crescenta/Montrose area is becoming more cosmopolitan and urban by the day! The next thing you know there will be artists and writers invading our community looking for fancy coffee! I even saw a homeless man last week! The urban decay must stop now!!!!

Obviously in the grand scheme of things, this is a small problem and it was, I'm sure, three nice teens who were seen slapping stickers on the wall of Burger King and someone's home (clearly not one of theirs, the sneaky way they were doing it). They took great pride in doing so...after witnessing this with my children (we removed both), we noticed these stickers all over on public and private mailboxes, street signs, etc. I do feel, however, that perhaps Mother Turf could encourage a different form of advertising that was, you know, legal, and that Montrose Patch could surely find many, many other things to post that were both permanent and pointed to the atmosphere in our great city. Here's Mother Turf's myspace page...give it a listen. http://www.myspace.com/therichardrayband

I'm never for defacing public/private property. But this is something that should be on patch! It is now, after-all, a piece of la crescenta/montrose history! Also, artists and writers come with great variety, there are some excellent people who are writers and artists. The books your children read in school were at some point written by what you currently think of "writers...looking for fancy coffee"

Hey Lisa, thank you for commenting. Is it really graffiti though? Or, is it public art? Each week we feature unique objects or designs from around town. Here are others that could apply to your comment about defacing public and private property: http://patch.com/A-qXCy; http://patch.com/A-qm6h
Why should Patch not post them?
Nicole Charky (Editor) March 19, 2012 at 11:37 am
Oh man, Concerned_Mother, I'm not sure it's that urban because you saw a homeless person. And homeless people, anyone for that matter, have the right to be in Montrose or La Crescenta. That's not urban decay! And if urban decay means that artists or writers will flock to Black Cow Cafe searching for French press coffee, then hey, so be it. We can all use the local business, right?

Hi Lisa, thanks for checking out Patch. Where did Mother Turf slap a sticker on a house? You have a block number? Let me know and I'll follow up.

I have absolutely no idea who "Mother Turf" is, but my opinion of them is already tarnished due to their guerrilla sticker campaign and graffiti all over Montrose. Is that really the only way they know to promote whatever they want to promote?

Well, I guess I would call "public art" something that was put there with permission. I know there are people who call taggers "artists" and, yes, some of the work they do is artistic, and yet it is for some reason is still a prosecutable offense...oh, that's right, it's because they spray paint without permission. At least with a tagger they are free form spray painting and not using a template. As far as the home, it has been over a month since we witnessed the three teenagers slapping stickers on public property (and peeling them carefully off after they left)--it was on Dunsmore below foothill and certainly wouldn't want to give any more attention to people whose "followers" choose to advertise this way. La Crescenta and Montrose have rich histories...lots of unique and creative things to be posted. If I cared more about this issue I would continue posting...not interested and won't be looking around town for this. :)

I can well empathsize with your loss. First thing, can you remember taking it off anywhere? DidRead More you wash your hands anywhere, soap makes fingers slippery. Did it fit well or was it a little loose? Running makes the arms swing. Strange as it may seem, it may still be in or on your own property. There are still honest people, call the desk of every business you went to. Also, call every pawn shop in your area and report. Good luck. If its any comfort, I found a diamond studded tie tack when I gazed at the soil in my garden and saw it. Keep us posted. b
