Where Are the Garage Sales This Weekend? There's an App (and a Contest) for That!

PennySaverUSA, a national print and online publication for free classified advertising, offers folks one more way to scour their neighborhoods for garage sales: The mobile app MOGASA. There's also a contest, entry deadline is Wednesday.

For many people, weekend mornings mean scouring streets for garage sales. Why, just recently, La Crescenta locals banded together to have !

Carboard signs and flourescent posters point toward eclectic mixes of mismatched cutlery, clothes Grandma once wore (vintage, score!) and crates of albums that might contain a mint-condition version of The Bay City Rollers.

But how do you know if those treasures are more like trash?

The Contest

And if you consider yourself an ultimate garage enthusiast (ie: your kids will be really bummed if you drag them to one more) you might want to enter the "Ultimate Treasure Hunter's Challenge.''

Open to residents of California and Florida, anyone interested should download the MOGASA app for iPhone or Andrioid and register to "Join the Hunt" by Wednesday.

On Saturday, National Garage Sale Day, an email with a list of treasures will be sent at 8 a.m. Using the MOGASA app, individuals and teams will hunt for all the items on this list. The individual and team that completes the challenge in the shortest amount of time within the 48-hour contest-time period will win $150 for the individual and $350 for the team.
