'Prepare for the Future Palooza' Saturday at LDS Church

The event will feature over 20 booths and will include information about how to deal with an emergency.

They are calling it "Prepare For the Future Palooza," and it is happening Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in La Crescenta.

"In this area, we have a history of situations, such as the wind storm, and power outages, fire, mudslides, etc. So the better prepared, the less damage it may do to us," one of the event's organizers, Steve Park, said in front of the Crescenta Valley Town Council on Thursday.

According to an event posting on Patch, the "Palooza" will feature "over 20 booths and will include extensive information, demonstrations, and exhibits in four main areas: Emergency Preparation, Financial Resources, Food and Home Storage, and Food Samples."

It takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at the LDS church at 4550 Raymond Ave. in La Crescenta, and is being hosted by congregations from La Crescenta, La Canada, Glendale, Sunland, and Tujunga of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The event is free to the public.

According to the event posting on Patch:

Emergency Preparation will include representatives from the Red Cross who will have a puppet show for children and will demonstrate CPR on dummies.  There will be demonstrations from Southern California Gas, Fire Department, CERT, and Specialists in ham radio, home generators, emergency kits, and solar panels.  They will also demonstrate and discuss emergency lighting and communication devices.

Financial Resources will cover employment skills, debt resolution and budgeting, estate planning, insurance, computer skills, and college education options.

Food and Home Storage will focus on water and food storage, food preservation, emergency cooking devices, gardening, raising chickens, etc.
Food Samples will include demonstrations on cooking with items from your food storage, including grains, beans, dried fruits and vegetables.
