Movie-lovers gather to watch all the trailers for Oscar contenders.

"And the award goes to ..."

No one knows, at least not yet, but movie fans gathered nonetheless at the  the evening of Feb. 23 to enjoy popcorn and candy while musing over the trailers that Adult Services Librarian Chase McMunn presented.

Among the nominees were sensations such as Black Swan, True Grit, Inception, The Social Network, The King's Speech, Blue Valentine, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Toy Story 3, and many more.

Philip Caron reported that he didn't have a particular Oscar pick, having only seen Inception and The Social Network. He was excited, though, to learn about the other films in an effort to be better prepared for the actual day of the Academy Awards. Of Inception, he called "too confusing."

Terry Bayer also came out to the event, all the way from La Canada, in fact. He did have a favorite contender, and that was True Grit, which he called "very imaginative and well-conceived." Furthermore, he said he was "blown away" by the maturity of fourteen-year-old Hailee Steinfeld's performance.

Among the other attendees were couples on date night, including one couple who was celebrating the tenth anniversary of their first date!

After the trailer screenings, guests engaged in a game of movie trivia jeopardy created by McMunn. All in all, the evening was a family-friendly, fun activity for La Crescenta locals. Visit the La Crescenta Library's site to view upcoming activities you might be interested in!

The Oscars will air Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. on ABC.
