Plastic bags will no longer be offered in stores located in unincorporated Los Angeles County, which includes La Crescenta and Montrose, and also adds a 10-cent charge for paper bags. The Department of Public Works will be at , 2675 Foothill Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today distributing free, reusable bags to help folks prepare for the ban’s implementation.

Traveling Skate Camp starts up in just a few weeks and registration is happening now for the popular summer youth program. The camp mixes activities at the Verdugo Skate Park, 1621 Cañada Blvd., with excursions to other skate parks including Montclair, Duarte and Oxnard. The camp is offered as four week-long sessions and runs Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, see the City of Glendale’s website or call 818-548-2786.

Learn how to turn a tin can into a lantern today at the , 2809 Foothill Blvd. from 3 to 5 p.m. Best for teens, the event is free and everything needed is supplied by the library. See the for more information.

Descanso Garden’s Music on the Main jazz series presents Elliott Caine’s be-bop jazz beginning at 5:30 p.m. The concert is free with regular admission to Descanso, $8 for adults, $6 for students and seniors, and $3 for kids aged 5 to 12. While not usually allowed, picnics are encouraged for the concert. Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada-Flintridge. 

Changing summer schedules can result in some unexpected stress. The Kadampa Meditation Center of California sponsors group mediation in , 4700 Dunsmore Ave., every Thursday 7 to 8 p.m. Classes are $10 each and no registration is required. Stop by the center’s website for more information.

I feel bad that teachers are having to pull money out of their own pockets, I wonder whateverRead More happened to the lottery money that was supposed to go to schools? I am a volunteer for an organization that offers free drug education kits to any teacher with booklets on the various harmful drugs .
