Comments of the Week: 'I Think We Should Ban Dogs from Monrovia'

Check out the best, funniest, strangest and most informative things our readers have to say.

We take pride in our work here at Patch and always strive to bring our readers interesting news. However, we must admit, sometimes the most interesting part of a great Patch story is the comments from readers that it sparks.

Here are some of the best, funniest, strangest and most informative comments from Patch stories around the San Gabriel Valley and Crescenta Valley Patch sites this past week:

Should Monrovia Ban Plastic Bags?

Several local residents asked the city council to consider discussing an ordinance that will barre the use of plastic bags at grocery stores after similar bans have been adopted elsewhere. Our story on this hot topic sparked a discussion with more than 40 comments and growing. Reader David Sengelaub gets our the Comment of the Week award for adding a little snark to the healthy conversation.

David Sengelaub July 3, 2013 at 03:24 pm Some people don't clean up after their dogs, for which those plastic bags work great, so I think we should ban dogs from Monrovia.

Two Hikers Rescued, Treated for Heat Exhaustion on Sunday
The pair was brought in by the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team from their hike to the Mt. Lowe Tavern and Mueller Tunnel.

File this under informative. Reader MtnManMike shares some helpful hiking tips following the report of two hikers suffering heat exhaustion.

MtnManMike July 2, 2013 at 09:56 pm A very important lesson here...Be prepared for the environment you are hiking in. The reality is that these hikers needed to be rescued very close to the Mt Lowe springs, which have an abundant source of fresh cool water. The hike up to Mt. Lowe is a long climb, and the front range is really hot. For me, it's a four to five liter hike. I use the Mt Lowe springs on a weekly basis. There is also water just beyond Echo Mtn. on the Castle Canyon trail. Carry a filter to prevent Giardia.
