5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 21

What's happening today around Montrose & La Crescenta.

1. Today is the first day of summer! It's also the longest day and shortest night of the year. Take advantage of the extra sunlight by taking a post-dinner stroll.

2. There is a at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's station from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Bloodmobile will be parked in the front parking lot of the station at 4554 Briggs Ave. in La Crescenta, and walk-ins are welcome. Donated blood will go to Huntington Memorial Hospital.

3. The Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition is hosting a lecture called tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Verdugo Hills Hospital, 1812 Verdugo Blvd. Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police will talk about how social networking platforms are being used to spread info about drugs & drug use. Parents and students are invited to attend.

4. See a free movie tonight at the Montrose-Crescenta Branch Library, 2465 Honolulu Ave. in Montrose. The library is screening "The Jane Austen Book Club" at 6:00 p.m.
