Montrose Man Arrested in Probation Raid

The man was one of 34 arrests made in a probation sweep throughout Los Angeles County.

More than 250 law enforcement officers served warrants at 160 locations Wednesday looking for probationers with guns and arrested 34 people and seized 23 guns along with several knives and switchblades.

Task force members from the sheriff's department, Pasadena Police Department, Department of Children and Family Services, probation department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives fanned out over the San Gabriel Valley, Santa Clarita, Sherman Oaks, Glendale, Pasadena and the Antelope Valley, targeting probation violators and well-known gang members.

The locations were all in the Fifth Supervisorial District because Supervisor Mike Antonovich had requested the operation. Planning for the large operation was months in the making.

"This operation shows what inter-department cooperation can accomplish," said Capt. Robert Tubbs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Community Oriented Policing Services. "The mission today was not only to arrest individuals known to be in violation of their probation, but to also ensure that others are fully complying with the terms and conditions of their early release program."

Tubbs said he expected the operation's success would result in similar operations in the future.
