After four years in the making, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the funding of the Crescenta Valley Dog Park on July 26.

Cheryl Davis, president of the Crescenta Valley Town Council, has been a strong supporter of this park since the beginning; the construction of a dog park was actually part of her campaign platform when she first ran in 2007.

Since that time, Davis has worked closely with the Supervisor's Office and the Parks and Planning department. The challenge of the project, Davis explained, was that there were "no Los Angeles County owned and operated dog parks; there are individual cities, like Santa Monica, Pasadena and Culver City [with dog parks]. This actually is a pilot program for all of Los Angeles County."

Groundbreaking will begin in August. The park will consist of 1.5 acres, two entryways that lead into separate areas for large and small dogs, dog hose-off areas, drinking fountains and faucets for dogs.

Other park amenities will include decomposed and cedar chip surfacing, landscaping, irrigation, re-striping and improvement to the existing parking lot, a 6-foot tall chain link fence, signs, benches, shade coverings and trash receptacles, as noted in a statement issued by Supervisor Michael Antonovich's office. 

The park will be an addition to Crescenta Valley Community Regional Park.
