Hollywood Hits Montrose for NBC's New Television Show 'Awake'

Montrose had action crashes and mysterious characters pacing Honolulu Avenue for NBC's filming of "Awake," a new sci-fi television show. See the Patch photos and add your own!

Montrose is known for Will Ferrell's nude run down Honolulu Avenue in Old School and cake tasting at  during The Wedding Singer. Several scenes of a new  will now feature Honolulu Avenue after filming action-packed shots on Monday. 

Among the television crew and extras, Foothill locals continued shopping while a crash scene filmed near Honolulu Avenue and Market Street.

Many stores and restaurants remained open on Monday during the filming from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, said Steve Pierce, Ambassador to Montrose and Montrose Film Liaison. Several of the merchants also received a stipend for any inconvenience during the filming.

Film crews also shot a chase scene in the parking structure near Broadview Drive and Verdugo Road, Pierce said. 

After 1 p.m. on Monday the street re-opened, but filming moved to  to film at that location until about 4 p.m. on Monday, Pierce said.

Actor Jason Isaacs darted toward maneuvering car crashes while the camera rolled. Isaacs, who who played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, plays Detective Michael Britten, who gets into a car crash with his wife and son and now has a double life. When he wakes up from the crash, he sees his wife and finds out that his son is dead. When he sleeps and wakes up the next day, his son is alive and his wife is dead. What really happened? 

The cast includes Laura Allen as Hannah Britten, the detective's wife; Dylan Minnette as Rex Britten, the detective's son; and Wilmer Valderrama as Detective Efrem Vega. 

Alias actor Kevin Weisman will also join the cast of Awake and play Mr. Blondie, who haunts Detective Britten while he travels through parallel worlds and realities, according to Entertainment Weekly. No premiere date is set for Awake yet.
