Hiker Fall at Eaton Canyon on Monday Afternoon

County fire assisted a hiker who took a fall Monday afternoon, but the hiker was able to get back out of the canyon with assistance of firefighters.

A hiker fell nearby the lower Eaton Canyon falls and had to be assisted by firefighters who were called to the scene, according to Inspector Quavando Johnson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The department was called shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Monday to a report that someone had fallen about a mile up the canyon trail to the falls, Johnson said.

Firefighters assisted the hiker back to the trailhead but did not take the hiker to the hospital, Johnson said.

He did not have any personal or identifying information about the hiker, who refused medical treatment.

A helicopter was never called to the scene as the hiker was not missing, and a helicopter evacuation was deemed unnecessary.

Eaton gets many falls, many deaths, and many rescues. People just don't realize that it's not a walk through some protected park in the city.
