Glendale Unified Student Hit by Bus, Killed
Boy was struck, pinned by slow moving bus, authorities said.
A 14-year-old boy died today after he was struck and killed by a school bus Thursday afternoon.
The boy, a student of Theodore Roosevelt Middle School in Glendale, was reportedly pinned under the slow moving bus after being hit in the intersection of Riverdale Drive and Columbus Avenue, police said. The boy died of his injuries about an hour later.
The boy was reportedly riding his bike on the sidewalk a little after 2 p.m. when he was hit by the northbound bus, police said.
"The bus struck the child at a slow rate of speed, because it was at the intersection," said Sergeant Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department.
The boy was immediately transported to Glendale Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Lorenz said. The mother has since been notified.
"It does not appear at this particular point there was a violation on the part of the bus driver. She has also been evaluated to eliminate any impairment by alcohol, or drugs," Lorenz said.
